Poznan - force
During the Zamek Residency in winter 2016, Tapouchi created a photographic topography of forced labor camps in Poznan. Documenting the transformations these locations have undergone, the photographs show their immersion into the fabric of the urban landscape. After the Second World War, most of the camps were dismantled, destroyed, appropriated, or rebuilt. “Transforming” shows how the past intervenes with everyday life, and how the legacy of war disintegrates into everyday banality. These locations may be forests, schools, factories, offices, military zones, or abandoned spaces. Through daily practices history becomes both omnipresent and invisible.
Based at the ZAMEK Art Center, I was able to research and photograph former locations of forced labor in the city of Poznan. This involved collaboration with historians, archivists, local people and city planners from Berlin and Poznan.
